New website + New blog

We have a new website.  This is quite exciting, and even though it's only very new, and we still have a lot of work to do, the plan is to integrate our store, site, and blog for an action packed station of goodness and news! It's where we will share what's new, special promotions, events, sales, and day to day studio and life news.  We hope to see you there, and while there's only two of us, we try to do the best we can, so if you have any questions at all, anytime, please shoot us an email.

Holy Macaroni! It's Inaluxe Rugs

I can't think of a word to describe how lovely it is knowing that there are now four rugs in the world with Inaluxe designs on them. Hell Yeah! comes to mind. This feeling is so surreal.  There's Coda, Atlas 39, Coda II and the second last design here (Fabrique) was one I created specifically with textile and soft lovely home wares in mind. That was in 2010. These rugs are all made possible and manufactured by Think Rugs in the UK. Each one is hand tufted by master rugs makers in India. Ethically produced, and made from a luxurious wool and viscose blend.  Ethical, luxury, and quality are three incredibly important words to us, and I suspect they contribute largely to this super-feel-good feeling.  The rugs are so damn new, we don't have the details of where to buy retail yet, but we will update here as soon as we know.  The good news is, worldwide shipping is definitely a go!

We're both over the moon, and we hope you love them too.

The little (big) things

Here's a photo of our Blossom 3 design exclusively for Urban Outfitters cushion, with one of my paintings, and one of the six new chairs we bought. After years of sore lower backs and shoulder pain, we figured it was time to replace our old (slightly too high lumpy turned leg chairs) and invest in our spines! It sounds ridiculous I know, but it's amazing how you get used to pain, and what a difference a new chair makes.

So the moral of the story? In order to move forward one must throw out the old chair! Have a lovely weekend everyone.

The slowest (half) update.

We have so much news to share, we are way behind, and it's hard to know where to start.  We have two calendars currently out with our designs for 2015, four rugs launching next month, more cushion adventures coming soon, an inaluxe diary, and there's the new Earth Greetings range we haven't shared. As well as some Blue Q goodness that isn't socks.

In all seriousness,  these products have been a long time in the making, and a lot of hard work.  That's not to say they are not enjoyable, quite the contrary!    Of course there's swearing, aching muscles, late nights, and at times, no social life, but then, my idea of a party is planting my garden, so maybe that's enough said on that!

One of these days Jason will do a post. I keep beating him to the punch. And he should, he's so much better with words than I am.

Time to eat. And time to beer!

Art, painting and new work

So, another week is almost done.  It was a big week. There were birthday celebrations, festive foods, a lot of laughing, and goofing around, and of course, heaps of work to get through.  Now we both need a big fat sleep!
Below is a new open edition, now in store titled "Soirée"

And below that, a gouache painting I finished last week.  It's been so good to get back into the painting. This one's on paper, and is reasonably large. I guess if I keep this up, I might have to start thinking about selling them at some point?   I actually find it hard to part with originals. They're like my children.   One possible solution to that problem is have too many kids? :)  Have a great weekend everyone.

Holy Moly! we're on socks!

Well I never! Seriously, I never imagined we'd see our designs on socks. But thanks to BlueQ, there are now five inaluxe designs on BlueQ socks. These are gorgeous combed cotton socks, feel lovely on, and best of all,  you can buy them online through BlueQ right now.  It was a really wonderful collaboration, and as always we thank BlueQ for asking us to design with them. It's a real pleasure.

Protea - Flower Print

When my grandmother passed away last year in September, it wasn't a shock, she was 86, but I was shocked. You see for as long as I can remember (being as young as 5 years of age) she always talked about dying, and death.  It wasn't that she was morbid, quite the contrary, she just felt like any day now she could go.  As the years progressed, whenever she said she was going to die, we would smile, and she would join in.  The whole family would talk about how she would probably outlive us all! So when she finally passed away on the 3rd of September in 2013, I was surprised. I expected her to live forever.
The only way to express my love, and feeling for her was in painting this extraordinarily bright and over the top Protea. the thing I remember about her most is her resilience, how funny she was, and in more practical ways, how she was happiest in her garden.  Her life literally revolved around the seasons. When to sow, when to plant, when to trim, work the soil... she was always out there in her magnificent flower garden. And it was massive. Her backyard was quite literally a park.
So it's taken almost a year, but I'm ready to share, and this print is now available in the store.
I think it's safe to say the Protea is a celebration of love.  It is for me.  And the magic part in all of this is that we all have our special moments, and stories. The people who move us, and help us to grow into the people we are.  You can't beat that!

Still Life Limited Edition Print

Been really slack with our blog lately. It's not that we haven't been around all month, but more a case of not being in the habit of posting, and I think busy catching up, and work overall.  I guess that's what happens when you are away for three months - chaos!  Ha ha ha.  I remember the days when I'd post almost daily.  I'm not sure how I managed that, but the plan is to try and get back to more regular posts. We really enjoy having our blog.  Due to some odd-ball technical issues, I turned off comments many moons ago, but I will try and bring that feature back.  Because comments are ace! and we like.

So you've probably seen a small version of this design in the post below, but here it is bigger, and with its own post.  'Still Life' limited edition print taken from a collage I finished this year.  The elements and shapes in this design partially draw from the 'Message in a Bottle' series completed last year.  The focus with the new work is to further explore my love of shapes, and push those ideas that came out in the paintings.  I'm enjoying this process.  It barely scratches the surface, but it's a start, and we are both committed to more time in the studio.  Change is on the way.... and we like it!

New Work

I call this new work, but the truth is, some of it has been a year in the making. Paintings, ideas, scribbles, all sitting quietly waiting for the time to be something.  It's been a very therapeutic experience working on these.  These new designs are all large limited editions, and should be in the shop within the week.  We're just finalising some last minute teensy details.

We're back!

We're back! It's been an odd three months... where does time go? Most of it was spent playing doctors and hospitals, and tests. Being poked, scanned, tested, and poked some more. The good news is, it's nearly over, and hopefully, we are at the end of this. Other good news is that while we did not have much time for art work, or inaluxe, there has been some recent movement with new work, and here is one of those designs now.  Titled "Embrace I" it's a limited edition of 200 - archival giclee.  Coming to the shop soon.  Size is A2.  The watermark/logo doesn't actually appear on the print.

Taking Time Off

Due to personal reasons that have nothing to do with inaluxe, we will be taking our break earlier than usual, and we might be away for slightly longer than usual.  In order to get some balance back into life, we will be closing our store on Friday the 4th of April, and returning sometime in May.  At this stage, we are not sure exactly when in May,  but we will yell out when we're back on board.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but you gotta do what you gotta do, and life is so big and full on, sometimes extraordinary things happen.  If you are after inaluxe goodies, please see our stockist page... they are available worldwide!  We hope this finds you all well, and happy.  See you all soon.  Thank you for your support, it means the world to us.

Hooray! Inaluxe cushions at Urban Outfitters

Wow... inaluxe designs on cushions is something we have been wanting to do for a long time, but we've been pretty busy over the last three years, and well, we never got around to it.  So you can imagine how excited we are to actually see our art on the latest cushions by Urban Outfitters!  We believe these are in limited release, so at $39.00USD a pop, you might wanna get in before they all sell out.  I might also mention it's FREE shipping from Urban Outfitters to Australia on all orders over fifty bucks. That's pretty NEAT!

New Inaluxe for Earth Greetings Range

While the builders were busy pulling our place apart in November, we were busy painting and working on the new designs for Earth Greetings.  It was pretty chaotic around here, not that you'd know looking at the range that came out of it all.  We think these are playful, bright, serene, and they make us happy. We hope you enjoy them too.  Again, I can't express enough how much we love working with Earth Greetings.  They are fabulous, and we are thrilled to be part of their range. There are 12 new designs in total.  To see them all, or purchase (with worldwide shipping) simply visit the Earth Greetings website.

Bondville Charity Auction - Children's Cancer Institute Australia

Christmas means so many things.  For us, it is about spending time with the people we love.  It's a universal feeling, and one we all relate to.   For me, it's also a time of new life, promise, and hope so you can imagine how excited we both are to be part of the Bondville 10 Year Anniversary Charity Auction.  All proceeds go to the Children's Cancer Institute Australia, and there are only three days left before the auction ends.  We donated three LARGE prints for the auction. YAY! ACES! and then some. We would be grateful if you could share this event, given only three days left. Cancer is never a nice thing, so anything we can do to improve the quality of life, and treatment for children with cancer will make this Christmas a little more joyous. And hey, there are so many amazing things on auction to bid on, and so many wonderful artists and designers who have donated.  It makes me feel good in so many ways!

inaluxe on the red thread - space to create!

We've been a little quiet over the last few weeks as we have builders working on our house/studio which while very exciting, it's also a little hard to keep working when your roof is coming off, or the jackhammer is in full swing. Still, it is business as usual, just a little less blogging!  However, we can't keep away completely, so here is a little bit of fun news on a recent feature.

During the last few weeks, as well as business as usual, Jason and I had the pleasure of working on an  inaluxe feature for The Red Thread - Space To Create.  We were so chuffed when we got an email from Lisa Tilse asking if we would be keen, and I have to tell you, it was so much fun! We talk about our home, work, and art.  We hope you'll drop by and check out Lisa's amazing blog, and while you're there, have a look at her beautiful work.

We have some news! we worked on a limited edition design for Masion Alice based on our shipping news range, and it's out now.  Nice and big, the size is A1, 594mm x 841mm,  and each one is signed, and numbered by me.  Now available through Maison Alice.  Here are a few photos. in the garden

Our garden is bustling with energy and colour.  I planted some tulips this year.  They are such a joy to watch.  They grow and change during the day, with their colour intensifying almost before your eyes.  I forgot that they open up to the sun, and close in the evening.  Something else, quite magical!

a thousand words

It's fair to say we don't have many photos of ourselves on the net.  There are some people who are in front of the camera all the time, and I wish I could do that, but the truth is, I hate having my photo taken.  Jason's not quite as bad as I am, actually I think he's one of those people who loves it! We are such opposites in so many ways. It's that difference that makes for a very entertaining working relationship.  And just to show we really are real people, here  is a little collage of some recent photos we took, of our work,  a little part of our home, and lastly, us.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend, and thank you all for your patience with regard to our absence over the last week.  We are slowly getting back on track, and now back home following my grandmother's funeral.  It was an incredibly sad, but beautiful day.  See you all in a week or so....

living collections

We like to collect things, and perhaps the most loved collections we have are the living kind.   Here is a cutting I took from one of my grandmother's Geraniums.  It's in the garden now, and doing well.  I just love that neon pink, and I love that it reminds me of her.

flowers for you

It has been a reflective week, filled with sadness, and fond memories. This one is for my grandmother baka Mara, who passed away peacefully aged 86, on Tuesday morning.  It's a bit of a tough time around here, so Jason and I will be keeping things low-key for the next week or so... but we shall see you all soon. x Kristina

room with a view

The thing I love about photography (and I've probably said this before) is its ability to capture a moment in time, unlike anything else.  I'm constantly inspired by what I see.  However, I can't, and certainly don't attempt to re-create that moment in a design.  It's impossible to portray it in its entirety.  The best I can do is try and convey the feeling within that moment, and I guess you could say that's what a lot of my work is about.  I won't speak for Jason in great detail, but I know he is of a similar mindset on this.  Here are two photos from our backyard.  The last one is the view from our deck.  We have two old buildings, one which needs to come down soon (originally a work shed) and what used to be the kitchen, which will be renovated.  Both date back to 1903. That might not seen like old to many of you, but Australia is a relatively young country, and that is old here.  And last but not least, I find myself wondering about those silos in the distance. I am not entirely sure if they are still in use.  Some days I love their imposing presence, other days they annoy me, for blocking the view of the mountains.  I'm hard to please.

studio time

We've been taking photos of the various parts of our studio, and we thought we'd post one here.  Because we essentially share our studio space with our living space, we find we need to be super organised, and things must get put away at the end of the day.  Otherwise, it's literally chaos!

I really like how the sun comes through the blinds in this photo, and a little insight into our music favourites too.  And I can't leave without pointing out how crooked our frames sit. They do this all the time! I didn't realise until later.

not entirely square

Thought I'd drop in and say hi quickly, and share some work with you.  Part of a series, this is a square format, large limited edition design.  It's part of a small series with details coming soon.  The shapes are reminiscent of work dating back to the 1990's.  I find it interesting that looking back over the last 20 years, I've always felt  abstract forms are more real for me.  While the work may appear abstract, it's not  really. It's about emotive connection.  I'm not sure how much more honest you can get than your feelings, and I see the art experience as a deeply personal one.  I know we all interpret in different ways, but that's how it rolls for me.  Cheers, K.

16 August 2013

excited hands

Hey there lovely people, how's your week been? We have had a great week here, and some exciting news we want to share, but it's still too early, and we have to wait.  However, we can say  think home wares and interiors.  We promise to post about it as soon as we can, and there will be photos too.

In other news this week, soggy weather, and destructive winds have all been a little too much, but there are hints of warmer things to come, and the inaluxe studio and our home will get a new roof, and exterior make over in time for Christmas.  We will be taking some time off during the building, simply because we won't be able to work around the builders during the whole process, but we'll do our best to minimise any time away from our online store.

I'm terrible with words - really.  I am not a natural, so please excuse me if my posts sound all over the place. I think Jason is much better at it.

And so with that admission, and little bit of catch up, I think it is time for me to get my feet into my big fat warm socks, relax, read, and have some vino.  I can't imagine doing a post without an image, so here is a design we've been working on over the last month, mind you, I painted these dots with ink in 2009, so there have been waiting a long time to show up in this form.  I did a post around that time with them and presto! here it is.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, and see you all soon.

make nice

Today it rained 15 times, the sun came out 12 times, it hailed once, and all of this has just added to the already soggy squishy mess that is August.  Seriously, it's been like this all month.  But I'm happy to say our bulbs do not care, and they are growing. Here's a photo of the first ones to come out, the Paper White Daffodils.  What is it about Spring bulbs? They just 'make nice' don't they.

Blue Q Goodness

As promised last week, here are three more new designs we worked on with the awesome Blue Q.  There's Mister Cat Shopper, Barely Squeakin' By coin purse, and Hoo's Next pencil case, which has a different design on each side.  It's always such a pleasure to work with everyone at BlueQ.  We love their support of the environment, the fact that these are made from 95% recycled material, and their ongoing contribution to the Conservation Fund.  Of course, the fact that they are some of the nicest people we have met, does not hurt either.  We love Blue Q!
